A TREIO Train the Trainer event aims to multiply the efforts of the project on national level by securing a second generation of trainers adopting the project reference training framework. The participants’ profiles for these cascading trainings referred to judges, prosecutors, and judicial bodies’ personnel supporting the work of the magistrates, with no limitations regarding their previous knowledge on EIO.
Train the Trainer - Netherlands was organized with the support of the Dutch Public Prosecution Service and led by a TREIO Master Trainer in English.
The two-day training combined the TREIO sessions with networking activities for representatives of the Dutch authorities. Access to eEDES demo environment and user manual were provided to participants prior to the training, while practical exercises on using eEDES were given to practitioners during the event. The TREIO Team (via LIBRe and RUG) remained at practitioners’ disposal in case of questions or concerns regarding the project and/or eEDES, including providing technical and user support on the use of the latter.
26 professionals were selected to join the training and they all received access to training materials and eEDES access credentials. 24 professionals took part in the sessions and received certificates for completion of the training.
Feedback was positive regarding the training as such. Some negative comments related to the facilitates (too packed meeting room, Internet not working well, etc.). Participants were doubtful on the effectiveness of the training considering they lacked some of the system’s history of choices made and the fact it was conducted prior to progressing with the national implementation of eEDES (according to most participants, it should have been conducted when the system was implemented). The eEDES workflow and the use of e-signatures differ from the Dutch national process which increased the negativity towards the training outcomes. As one of the participants mentioned “[i]mplementation is a “big if”, but it is not for the participants of this course [to decide, to take action, to recommend].”
